Iranian Film Series
The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul and the Iranian Culture House are pleased to announce the Twin Cities’ first Iranian Film Festival. And you are invited to join us
The series will be presented February 15-17 2018, on the Film Society’s Screen 3 at the St. Anthony Main Theatre, and will feature some of the best of contemporary Iranian cinema – films that have never before been seen in the Twin Cities. We plan to bring speakers to introduce and lead discussions after the films, and when possible the filmmakers themselves, to add clarity and insight to the film-going experience.
Whether you are from Iran or have Iranian roots, are an admirer of Persian culture, a fan of Iranian cinema, an all-around movie buff, or a political junkie, we’re sure you can appreciate why this project is so timely and important. Iranian cinema, long recognized as one of the most significant in the world, is once again flourishing, and winning international awards and recognition at film festivals around the globe. And yet, very few Iranian films ever make it to theaters in the region or, for that matter, in the United States. With this first Iranian Film Festival, we’ll showcase films that can give American audiences a better understanding of contemporary Iran, a fascinating culture in the midst of rapid change.
To make this Festival happen, we need to raise at least $5,000, by the end of September 2017. The good news: we already have a donor who has pledged to match the first $2,000 in donations. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and are tax-deductible. Sponsorships, which provide valuable benefits for businesses, are also available and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
More information about this program will be available soon at mspfilm.org.
