Malaysian born Taiwan based auteur Tsai Ming-lings most recent film is a sad and profound elegy of life on the margins. The stray dogs alluded to in the title are a father and his two children, vagabonds who make the best out of limited resources. The father's job is holding a sign for luxury apartments on a busy Taipei road, rain or shine. The family intersects with a lonely woman just as the father seems to be spiraling downwards. Tsai combines mystery, humor, and large doses of sympathy with his languorous camerawork for a stunning visual and emotional effect.
