Sparks are flying in the lobby of The Main and upstairs in the offices of the MSP Film Society, where festival programmers are making their final selections for the 41st MSP International Film Festival, May 5-19, 2022, and all is in motion for the Grand Opening of MSP Film at The Main!

As they say, it takes a village, and we are so lucky to have so many talented people in ours. We are grateful to everyone who is lending their skills to the redesign and relaunch of the theater, including our project architect and U of MN Professor of Architecture, Marcelo Valdes, designer Reggie Reyes of KNOCK Inc., and, pictured here, our project manager, Kirk Hokanson. As many in the production community will attest, Kirk has long been admired and appreciated for his illustrious career as a top commercial producer, director, mentor, and owner of Voodoo Films. But who knew Kirk also has extensive renovation skills, and an impressive crew to match!

Things are moving at a steady clip at The Main: paint colors are being selected, scaffolding is on site, and drop cloths have been draped.

MSP Film Society invited WCCO News cameraman and MSPIFF alum filmmaker Aaron Goodyear to capture some of the physical changes in progress as reporter John Lauritsen asked us about all the programming changes ahead. If you missed the story, you can view it on WCCO’s website here.

When they bust out the buffer, you know things are moving forward with a flurry at The Main! Demolition debris has been hauled away, screens have been measured, seats are being recovered, and new speakers are on order. No corner or corridor will be left behind!

As you have surely heard by now, MSP Film Society is taking over operations of the theater formerly known as St. Anthony Main, and the facelift has already begun! The carpet has been torn out, the bathrooms are being gutted, and the talented designers at Knock, Inc. are working closely with our architect Marcelo Valdes on transforming the theater into a neighborhood showpiece, both inside and out. 

Our announcement to take over all operations at the St. Anthony Main Theatre and program all screens in 2022 has been received with astounding enthusiasm – and a lot of questions! As with any major undertaking, the finer details are constantly in flux, but we assure you the popcorn will remain the same!

It’s a convenient tool for mock-ups. It helps to outline the visual elements of a document or presentation, eg typography, font, or layout. Its words and letters have been changed by addition or removal, so to deliberately render its content nonsensical; it’s not genuine, correct, or comprehensible Latin anymore. While lorem ipsum’s still resembles classical Latin, it actually has no meaning whatsoever. As Cicero’s text doesn’t contain the letters K, W, or Z, alien to latin, these, and others are often inserted randomly to mimic the typographic appearence of European languages, as are digraphs not to be found in the original.
