Adam and Zack Khalil’s stirring documentary about the work of MACPRA, the Michigan Anishinaabek Cultural Preservation and Repatriation Alliance, whose goal is to free Ancestors trapped in museums around the world and return them to their rightful burial grounds. The documentary is unyielding in its portrayal of the colonial institutions that have imprisoned Indigenous artifacts, including human remains in these sterile environments, for the entertainment of others. And yet, it also serves as a testament to the powerful work groups like MACPRA are doing, often without recognition, around the world.
