ABOUT THE FILM

Lucila leaves Mexico with her younger brother to reunite with their mother in Madrid, who had left a few years earlier to chase a better future. When they finally arrive, the bitter, suffocating reality that awaits them proves far harsher than Lucila had imagined. Still, she is determined to make the most of this fragile new life. Ashes, premiered in the Special Screenings section at the last Festival de Cannes, the sixth feature film from Mexican director, actor and producer Diego Luna, will be also part of the Toronto International Film Festival and Horizontes Latinos at San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Lucila parte de México con su hermano menor para reunirse en Madrid con su madre, quien había emigrado años atrás en busca de un futuro mejor. Al llegar, la realidad amarga y asfixiante que los aguarda resulta mucho más dura de lo que Lucila había imaginado. Aun así, está decidida a aprovechar al máximo esta nueva y frágil vida. Estrenada en la sección de Proyecciones Especiales del pasado Festival de Cannes, el sexto largometraje del director, actor y productor mexicano Diego Luna formará parte también del Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto y de la sección Horizontes Latinos del Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián.
