Barni

90 min

Director Mohammed Sheikh Attending

From Minnesota filmmaker Mohammed Sheikh, this is the story of Barni, a nine-year-old girl who vanishes after a wedding in her rural village in Somalia. With her friends Hirsi and Geedi, Barni’s sister Amina takes a brave journey into the city, stopping at nothing to find her. With nuanced, naturalistic performances and stunning visuals, Barni is a tale of persistence and self-discovery against all odds.

Curated & presented in partnership with Mizna, SWANA Stories at MSPIFF presents bold and striking new films from North Africa, Southwest Asia, and the diaspora.
