Jasrath and Vidya are an aging couple in dire straits. He hauls bricks and she sells dried cow dung for fuel, and they never save a dime, instead barely keeping ahead of their bills. Their son, Naran, has an intellectual disability, and caring for him exhausts what little time, energy and money they have. Creditors want their land and so-called friends tell them to institutionalize their son and move on. Instead, they take one last chance at a solution, making the arduous pilgrimage to Maha Kumbh Mela, a religious event that occurs once every 144 years.
