Mr. K

Mr. K

Dir. Tallulah H. Schwab
96 min

Crispin Glover is Mr. K, a magician who stays in a grand rundown hotel in a remote part of an unnamed country. When he tries to leave, he finds every hallway a maze, every exit a wall, the other tenants verging on madness. Two decades in the making, Mr. K is a surrealist mystery and comedic mindbender like you’ve never seen before.

Clearly inspired by the works of Franz Kafka, and imagined with Crispin Glover since its inception, Mr. K is a delightful, disturbing and mind-bending film. Glover gives his all as the eponymous character, a down-on-his-heels magician who drags his sorry self into a hotel for a night. When he wakes after a fitful night, he can’t leave, and worse, the other guests, themselves trapped, abuse our poor hero until he himself begins to become undone. Tallulah H. Schwab’s first film in 10 years evokes the Coen brothers and David Lynch while remaining thoroughly original.
