Catalan chef Joan Roca is often considered the Messi of the kitchen—a phrase that captures the stature of his revolutionary cuisine. To celebrate Roca’s influence, legacy, and career, renowned chef Dani García brought together twenty of Spain’s most celebrated chefs, collectively holding 70 Michelin stars, for a tribute dinner in Barcelona. In the intensely competitive world of Spanish gastronomy, this idea posed nightmarish logistical and personal challenges. What followed, however, was a rare display of collaboration: some of the country’s most influential culinary figures working side by side to create an extraordinary banquet. They transformed the kitchen into a vibrant workshop of mouthwatering, emblematic dishes inspired by the cuisine of El Celler de Can Roca, Roca’s legendary restaurant, and by everything Joan himself has inspired in them over the years. Directed by Virginia Jönas Urigüen and Jorge Fernández Mayoral, One of Our Own explores both the public and private sides of the chef’s world—from the historic kitchen of El Celler de Can Roca to intimate conversations that reveal Roca’s reflective and generous character, and the sheer creativity of the dishes prepared for the event. A celebration that becomes a symbol of the friendships, loyalty, and shared values that shaped Spain’s gastronomic revolution, proving, as Roca reflects in the film, that cooking is not just technique but emotion—an act of generosity capable of inspiring others, bringing people together, and even changing lives.

Al chef catalán Joan Roca se le suele considerar el «Messi de la cocina», una frase que resume la magnitud de su cocina revolucionaria. Para celebrar la influencia, el legado y la trayectoria de Roca, el reconocido chef Dani García reunió a veinte de los chefs más célebres de España —que suman un total de 70 estrellas Michelin— en una cena homenaje celebrada en Barcelona. En el mundo ferozmente competitivo de la gastronomía española, esta iniciativa planteaba desafíos logísticos y personales de enorme complejidad. Sin embargo, el resultado fue una extraordinaria muestra de colaboración: algunas de las figuras culinarias más influyentes del país trabajaron codo a codo para crear un banquete excepcional. Transformaron la cocina en un taller dinámico donde se elaboraron platos emblemáticos y exquisitos, inspirados tanto en la cocina de El Celler de Can Roca —el legendario restaurante de Roca— como en todo lo que el propio Joan ha inspirado en ellos a lo largo de los años.
