Based on Minnesota author Judith Guest’s acclaimed novel, Ordinary People is the story of a family torn apart by suppressed secrets and trauma. The Jarrett family is in trouble. Their oldest son died in a tragic boating accident, and Calvin (Donald Sutherland) tries to deal with his grief while his wife, Beth (Mary Tyler Moore) is in severe denial. This has led to the attempted suicide attempts of Conrad (Timothy Hutton, who won an Oscar for his role), the youngest son, who tries to cope with the help of his psychiatrist, Dr. Berger (Judd Hirsch). Robert Redford’s directing debut won enormous critical acclaim, including Oscars for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Director. Guest will be attending the screening, which honors the legacy of Robert Redford.
