18-year-old Marina travels to the Atlantic coast of Spain for a birth certificate from her paternal grandparents, in order to get a scholarship. She is an orphan, both her mother and father having passed years ago. In Spain, she meets an extended family for the first time, and they’re eager to see her. But they all harbor secrets about her father, who died of AIDS, and as Marina continues to press for information, she comes to understand the stranger who was her father. Carla Simón’s semi-autobiographical film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
