Silent Friend
In a botanical garden in a medieval German town, a Ginkgo biloba tree silently watches over three different lives, in 1908, 1972 and 2020. In the first part, Grete is fighting for a spot in the local university’s botany department. In 1972, Gundula conducted experiments on geraniums, trying to find a connection between plants and humans. And in 2020, Dr. Tony Wong is neurologist trying to connect the seen and the unseen.
Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi’s stunning film was shot in 35mm, 16mm, and digital, and features acclaimed actor Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, in a part written just for him. Winner of 6 awards at the Venice International Film Festival.
