The Blue Trail

Dir. Gabriel Mascaro
86 min

Brazil in the near future: where seniors are forced into retirement, rounded up, and disappear to “enjoy” their final years. 77-year-old Thereza loses her job at an alligator-meat plant and finds herself facing government agents readying her to be sent to camps. Refusing to submit, and eager to pursue her dream of flying in an airplane, she hires a dodgy boat to take her down the Amazon to the mystical Itacoatiara, where the river flows into the ocean. Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, Gabriel Mascaro’s (Neon Bull, Divine Love) gorgeous new film is at once a satirical dystopian tale and a reflection on the power of subtle resistance.
