Chile, 1992. Nine-year-old Inés is staying at her grandparents’ remote Andean ski resort when she befriends Hanna, a rebellious German teenager training to become a competitive skier. When Hanna suddenly disappears, her mother enlists Inés as a translator, drawing the girl into a search that exposes secrets far darker than she imagined. As the mystery deepens, Inés is forced to question whom she can trust—and what the adults around her are hiding. Set against a country emerging from Pinochet’s dictatorship, The Meltdown, the sophomore feature from actress-turned-writer-director Manuela Martelli (Chile ’76), which premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and was selected to represent Chile at the 2027 Oscars, is a haunting and suspenseful mystery about disappearance, complicity, and the buried ghosts of the past.
