Third Act

Dir. Tadashi Nakamura
91 min

Known as “the Godfather of Asian-American media”, the life and career of filmmaker Robert A. Nakamura is examined in his son Tadashi's stirring documentary, along with generational trauma, silenced emotions, and Robert’s experiences in the Japanese internment camps during WWII.

Born to one of the most illustrious filmmakers, Tadashi appeared in one of his father’s films as a baby. When his father is diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Tadashi decides that the time has come to examine his father’s incredible legacy, which includes being one of the founders of Visual Communications, the oldest community-based Asian Pacific American media arts organization country, and directing six acclaimed films about the Asian-American experience here. Third Act is at once a warm look at fatherhood, a profound examination of a great filmmaker, and a lens through which America’s treatment of Asians in the 20th Century is given full examination.
