A Spanish heir, Lázaro travels to 19th century Hispaniola prior to the Dominican’s independence with Mei, a Chinese silk maker, in the hopes of striking it rich. They meet Baptiste, a Haitian army deserter living in Lázaro’s father’s house, who offers to help them navigate the often brutal wilderness as they try to start up a silk trade. This unlikely trio faces any number of hardships in Ulises Porra’s lush new film.
