Went Up the Hill
Went Up the Hill
When his mother’s widow, Jill, calls Jack to attend her wake in remote New Zealand, he agrees reluctantly. Troubled that his mother, Elizabeth, abandoned him as a child, he arrives with trepidation, and when Jill tells him that she did not, in fact, call him, the pair soon realize that Elizabeth is haunting them both, literally and figuratively.
Elizabeth was a brilliant architect, but mental illness clouded her life every day. When Jack arrives in her remote home town, he has to wrestle not only with his mixed feelings about the mother who abandoned him, but with Jill, her widow, who never even knew he existed, and whose life with Elizabeth hasn’t been easy. Soon, they find themselves actually possessed by Elizabeth’s spirit, and try to work through their complicated history. Anchored by Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) and Dacre Montgomery’s (Stranger Things) powerful performances, Went Up the Hill is a beautiful film that will follow viewers for a long time.
