The Feldman Ecopark was one of Ukraine’s most beloved animal sanctuaries, until it found itself on the frontline of the war with Russia. Joshua Zeman’s heartbreaking documentary chronicles the work of staff and volunteers as they try to save the animals, at the risk–and cost–of their own lives.

Founded to help share a love of animals, the Ecopark was caught in the crosshairs immediately following the February 2022 Russian invasion. Bombarded on either side, courageous animal lovers entered no-man’s land to save and rehouse these animals. With incredible footage that was taken at tremendous risk, Checkpoint Zoo is a challenging, though ultimately uplifting film about the lengths compassionate people will go to save the powerless.
