ABOUT THE FILM

Miguel Garay, a former film director deals with the mysterious and unexpected disappearance decades ago, of his friend and film lead, Julio Arenas. There are those who believe Julio has died. Others still hope to find him. Julio’s own daughter, Ana Arenas, questions his complete existence. The truth is that Miguel's life and career as a director stopped the day Julio walked out of the set and never came back. Life imitating fiction, the film they were making then was about a man seeking to find his also mysteriously disappeared daughter. Twenty years later, a television program hires Miguel to talk about the actor’s disappearance. Although Miguel initially is in for the money, reliving the days of shooting the unfinished film brings back the ghosts of his and Julio's past. With an extraordinary cast led by José Coronado (Julio), Manolo Solo (Miguel) and Ana Torrent (Ana), the latest work from acclaimed Spanish director Víctor Erice (The Spirit of the Beehive) is a tale that captivated explores the themes of memory, aging and identity. Facts and fiction collide in Erice’s masterpiece offering an unforgettable tale of the mighty communion between cinema and life.

Miguel Garay, un ex director de cine, aún hoy se enfrenta a la misteriosa e inesperada desaparición ocurrida hace décadas, de su amigo y actor principal de su película, Julio Arenas. Hay quienes creen que Julio ha muerto. Otros todavía esperan encontrarlo. La propia hija de Julio, Ana Arenas, cuestiona su existencia. Lo cierto es que la vida y carrera de Miguel como director de cine se detuvo el día que Julio salió del set y nunca regresó. La vida imita a la ficción: la película que estaban haciendo entonces era la historia de un hombre que busca encontrar a su hija también misteriosamente desaparecida. Veinte años después, un programa de televisión contrata a Miguel para hablar sobre la desaparición del actor. Aunque inicialmente a Miguel sólo le interesa el pago por la entrevista, revivir los días de rodaje de la película inacabada lo enfrenta a los fantasmas de su pasado y el de Julio. Con un extraordinario reparto encabezado por José Coronado (Julio), Manolo Solo (Miguel) y Ana Torrent (Ana), el último trabajo del aclamado director español Víctor Erice (El espíritu de la colmena) explora magistralmente los temas de la memoria, el envejecer y la identidad.
