Evil Does Not Exist
Takumi is a single dad to his daughter, Hana. Life is hard in their village but peaceful. However, when a Tokyo company descends on the village with the intent of building a “glamping” resort, the village will never be the same, with potentially devastating results.
From Oscar-winning director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car) comes a slow-burning and multi-faceted new ecological thriller. In the mountain village of Harasawa lives Takumi, where he helps the villagers chop wood, draw water, and do odd jobs, until a major corporation looks to exploit the natural beauty. Working with composer Eiko Ishibashi, Hamaguchi has crafted a visually and aurally stunning film, which, despite its methodical pace, will keep you on the edge of your seats.
