In the Blind Spot
When a German documentary crew descends on a small Turkish village to interview a woman whose child vanished decades ago, they find themselves caught in what looks like supernatural circumstances. Shot from three perspectives, Ayse Polat’s thriller is riveting.
In this small Kurdish village in Northeast Turkey, the film crew is looking to dig deeper into the mysterious vanishing of a child nearly three decades ago. There, they meet the mother, who has a shrine to her son. Simultaneously, a young girl, the daughter of a local man with a sinister past, begins encountering a power beyond anyone’s understanding.
“Gripping from start to finish, Polat’s finest film to date serves as an exploration of the violence unleashed by the Erdogan regime on the Kurdish population; a snapshot of a lawless place governed by xenophobia and paranoia.” –Joseph Fahim, Middle East Eye
