ABOUT THE FILM

Antonia Singla was born surrounded by the sounds of flamenco and the sea waves at the beach of Somorrostro in Barcelona. She lost her hearing very young but she already had the music in her soul and the rhythm in her body. She became a dancer and erupted in the world of flamenco with an energy and personality unusual for female dancers of her time. Her career quickly crossed borders and she became an internationally revered dancer. She was destined to a life of fame and glory, however one day, she disappeared from the tablaos forever. Fifty years later, archival photos and films set a young dancer on a journey to unravel the mystery surrounding La Singla. One question fueled her quest: how was it possible that an artist who revolutionized flamenco, questioned her culture, and contributed so much to the deaf community, had been completely erased from history? Director Paloma Zapata follows the trail of her legend and the power of her performances, and little by little, puts back together the complex puzzle that was this extraordinary woman and her life of courage, determination and passion.
