Monsieur Aznavour

Monsieur Aznavour

Monsieur Aznavour

Dir. Mehdi Idir, Grand Corps Malade
133 min

Acclaimed actor Tahar Rahim stars as the legendary French singer Charles Aznavour, dubbed “the French Frank Sinatra”, who rose from poverty to become one of that country’s greatest singers and actors.

Born to Armenian parents who escaped the genocide, Aznavour was the child of artists and a restauranteur who grew up with music in his blood. As a child during World War II, he assisted his parents in hiding Jews and Armenians from the Nazis. He went on to a tremendous musical career, writing and performing over 1,000 songs, many of which were performed by singers around the world. He cemented his cinematic legacy when he starred in François Truffaut’s Shoot the Piano Player. A man of astonishing talent, compassion, and dignity, he was a galvanizing and inspirational man, and Monsieur Aznavour is a fitting tribute to his life and legacy.
