The Arctic Convoy
The Arctic Convoy
In 1942, seamen with supplies for the Eastern front brave brutal Arctic seas and enemy-infested waters as they head for Murmansk. But when they are ordered to disperse their convoy, a dangerous situation turns truly dire. A companion piece of sorts to the poignant period drama War Sailor from a few years back.
The action of this naval thriller unfolds in 1942, as 35 civilian merchant ships brave brutal Arctic seas and enemy-infested waters, heading for Murmansk with much-needed weapons and supplies for soldiers on the Eastern Front. When the British fighter jets that comprise their military escort are suddenly scrambled for other hotspots, the officers on one boat with a failing engine must decide if they should complete their mission or return to Iceland. As the Captain and his newly assigned First Mate argue the pros and cons, attacks from Axis planes and submarines terrify some of the young and inexperienced crew. –Alissa Simon
